INSTRUMENT SERVICE During the past decade much of my time has been devoted to servicing and rebuilding early keyboard instruments. Since 1992 I have been entrusted with the care of the Oberlin Conservatory collection of harpsichords, the largest of its kind in the Midwest, and probably in the entire United States. Many other instruments in private ownership have passed through my shop, and I have found as much satisfaction in rehabilitating even the humblest kits as in working on instruments from prestigious makers. My approach to repair and rebuilding is to keep as close as possible to the original builder's concept and to retain as much as possible of the original fabric of the instrument. I favor restoring to original condition over modernizing or improving, except for action parts, which often cannot be practically repaired and must be replaced. If your instrument needs work, describe your problem on the contact page; please identify the maker and the model of your instrument. I will reply with an estimate, or with further questions or discussion. |

STRING REPLACEMENT SERVICE For many years I have offered replacement strings for harpsichords and fortepianos available by mail order. Strings are made up with hitchpin loops, and packaged and labeled individually, and are available in a variety of materials and sizes sufficient to meet most needs. To place an order, use the string order form. |
